SUFFERING FROM ‘MASKNE’? I GOT YOU BOO!

What is MASKNE?

Mask related acne otherwise known as ‘MASKNE’ will typically appear in the way of pimples/blemishes, redness, or irritation around your mouth, cheeks, and jawline. Basically anywhere your mask touches.

Sweat, oil, and bacteria are essentially just building up underneath your face masks and blocking up your pores, not to mention the incessant rubbing of the material which can cause damage to your skins protective barrier.

How do I treat it?

First things first. Mask hygiene. If your using disposables then you need to understand that it is essential they are changed regularly. Especially if you are required to wear one for long periods of time (in your place of work etc, I’m sure everywhere has their own procedures that need to be followed so obviously best to seek guidance through the correct channels).

I tend to go with reusable masks but that’s my personal preference. They need to be washed after every use (to stop the spread of the virus but also to help get rid of any bacteria that lurks inside  ready to pounce on your skin.

Skincare has taken on a whole new level of importance since we started wearing face masks. Now more than ever It’s really important to find a routine that works for you.

I’m oily and blemish prone so had already experimented a lot to find my perfect products and coincidentally they also really do the job with it comes to mask related acne too so I thought now would be a good time to share them with you.

My absolute ride or die is the Bye Bye Blemish Witch Hazel and Tea Tree Toner. It’s so incredibly calming and soothing and I honestly do credit this product with how clear my skin is on a day to day basis. You also can’t go wrong with their Skin Rescue Serum (which also dries down to a tacky finish and works well as a primer).

The Revolution Skincare Niacinamide Range has everything you could possibly need to tackle those pesky outbreaks as well as mattify the skin without dulling it down to nothing.

These products obviously won’t work for everyone but they are all really affordable so worth a go. Sometimes it really can be trial and error. If you’d like to try something different though look out for products that contain Salicylic Acid or Niacinamide. These are both great for acne control.

Can I cover it up?

Short answer? Yes you can.

Unfortunately makeup can also really aggravate the whole nasty situation. Obviously it’s totally up to you but personally I have found myself going bare faced more often than not at the moment I just don’t feel like putting all that effort in to go ahead and hide it anyway. It’s also given me the opportunity to really trial a ‘less is more approach’ which couldn’t be more different to how I usually do things.

Some brows, a bit of concealer and a slick of mascara and that’s about as glam as it gets right now.

Masks are obviously with us for the foreseeable so I hope this post has helped you in some way to coping with it, I’d also love to hear about what’s working for you! There really isn’t an exact science to all of this, it’s still very new to a lot of us. For now, just be kind to yourself.

THE ONE WITH…FRIENDS STARTING A (MAKEUP) REVOLUTION!

2020 may have been a godawful year for a million reasons but oh my god it sure did teach us to appreciate the little things.

Makeup Revolution brought some much needed joy into my life when they announced they were releasing a friends collection. If someone had asked me what my ultimate collab would be then that would have been right up there!

Could I be anymore of a fan?!

Makeup Revolution x Friends Monica Eyeshadow Palette, Lipstick, Lipgloss and Mirror.

The original collection (Series 1) consisted of four eyeshadow palettes, three lipsticks, six lipglosses, two makeup bags, a mirror and some adorable scrunchies!  It truly was a sight to behold with on point packaging and shade names that got me right in the feels you can imagine how excited I was when Series 2 was teased not long after…

Skincare soon followed (a body scrub and butter plus a lip scrub and mask) alongside four adorable novelty bath fixers, three brand new eyeshadow palettes and two face palettes followed by a sweatshirt (which I still don’t bloody have)! Surely now our collection is complete? What if it takes over the ribbon drawer?

Makeup Revolution x Friends Open The Door Eyeshadow Palette Swatches.

Nope! So much more nostalgic newness rained down from the heaven. Series 3 birthed possibly the best reference so far with Ichiban Joey Lipstick (honestly, my heart can’t take anymore). More palettes (because one can never have enough!), self care essentials and the cutest little lobster brush set you ever did see.

Guys I’m exhausted with all of the love.

MASK PROOF YOUR MAKEUP WITH THE MAKEUP REVOLUTION SUPERFIX MISTING SETTING SPRAY

Post contains a previously gifted product. All views are my own.

Hands up if you are fed up to the back teeth of having to go out barefaced for fear of looking like a clown when your favourite lippy ends up smeared all over your face?

Guys I feel you! I am super oily so I feel like I’m being attacked from all angles and to be honest I just want to feel glam again without worrying my makeup has worn away from my nose! It’s embarrassing if nothing else. Of course I completely understand that masks are a necessity right now and these things all seem very irrelevant but it would be nice to have the option to keep myself and my family safe whilst also feeling good about myself.

Let me introduce you to the Makeup Revolution Superfix Misting Setting Spray!

‘Lock your look in place with the Revolution Superfix Misting Spray. Enjoy the holding power of this weightless setting mist, perfect for use with your favourite liquid, matte or powder based base products.

This fixing spray gives you an ultra-matte, shine free look that won’t fade away. Infused with beneficial skin soothing Aloe & Vitamin E.’

Sounds magical doesn’t it? It’s transformed my makeup game in general by adding so much more longevity (I mentioned how oily I am didn’t I?!) to my look which is great but the fact I can now wear a full face and not worry about what it will look like after I’ve done my weekly shop (because let’s be honest, that’s as exiting as it gets right now isn’t it?) really has cheered me up untold amounts.

You can pick yours up for just £10 (which is a bargain considering it works just as well if not better than many high end setting sprays I’ve used). I’ve also given it a thorough testing alongside a variety of different base products to try and decide whether it only works with a certain combination (and so far I’m really pleased to say it’s been a winner with every single one!).

It’s one for your wishlist guys!

THE MAKEUP REVOLUTION: REVOLUTION PRO ‘ROCKSTAR COLLECTION’ REVIEW

After a pretty rubbish week where I once again wallowed in self doubt and debated whether I should actually be doing this at all I was givena kick up the arse when this little bundle of goodness arrived at my door!

The Makeup Revolution Revolution Pro Rockstar Collection launches on 27th January and guys…you need it!

The collection consists of two gorgeous eyeshadow palettes, a matte black liquid eyeliner and a selection of eight gel eyeliners in assorted (stunning!) shades.

I’ll start with the palettes shall I?

Rockstar Eyeshadow Palettes…

‘Noir’ is arguable my favourite (because I’m a sucker for those burgundy and rose tones!) but ‘Nude’ really is your perfect all rounder (also perfect for bridal makeup).

I love the mix of formulas within both palettes, quite a nice balance of shimmers and mattes with a handful of pressed glitters and something else entirely. I’m not quite sure what to call it. For all intents and purposes it’s a shimmer but almost feels wet to touch? Whatever it is, I’m a fan because it’s lush.

For the varied yet versatile colour stories and the quality of the shadows I would say the price point is bang on. I’ll certainly get a lot of wear out of both palettes.

Visionary Gel Eyeliners…

Arguable my favourite part of the collection.

I love the shade range (again, that burgundy guys!) and they are just sooooo creamy.

Each liner comes equipped with its own little smudging tool so you can achieve that sexy, smoked out, I may or may not have slept in this makeup sort of thing that takes far more effort than it looks.

I’m so excited to really give these a proper test drive because I really feel like they’re going to elevate an everyday eye look into something incredibly special!

Rockstar Matte Edition Liquid Eyeliner…

Last but by no means least is the snazzy new ultra black matte liquid liner. I’ve been in a Ross and Rachel style on-again/off-again relationship with liquid liner for about ten years now. I shouldn’t really wear it because I just don’t have the skills to combat my I’m very hooded eyes BUT I want to.

Despite my personal battles this liner is fab! Really long lasting, smudge proof and like I said, ultra black. What more could you realistically want?

I’ve included prices for the entire collection below. The whole thing is very reasonable for the quality and will be the perfect way to accessorise your loungewear for those quiz night zoom calls!
